Selah Create Visibility Playbook

A beautiful website is step one.
Getting it found is step two.

This is the exact process Selah Create follows to get a client's business showing up on Google, Google Maps, Bing, Apple Maps, social media and the new AI search answers.

The roadmap

Six phases, in this order

Phases 1–4 happen at launch. Phases 5 and 6 keep the momentum going month after month.

Honest timeline: listings and indexing show up within days to weeks. Map-pack and organic rankings usually take 3–6 months to build, and no one can honestly guarantee a #1 spot.
1
Launch day

Technical foundation

Nothing else works until Google and Bing can crawl and index the site.

Give the client their own domain. A site living under someone else's domain builds ranking for that domain, not the client's. Their Google Business Profile should also point to a domain they own. Register it in the client's name and record who controls it.

Launch-day checklist

  • HTTPS on: run AutoSSL in cPanel, then force HTTPS and one version of the domain (www or non-www) with a 301 redirect in .htaccess.
  • robots.txt at the root allows crawling and lists the sitemap. Remove any leftover Disallow: / from staging.
  • sitemap.xml lists every public page with its full HTTPS URL. On PHP/JSON sites, generate it from the same data that builds the pages so it never goes stale.
  • Each page has one canonical URL. Admin, login and app pages carry a noindex robots tag.
  • Clean, readable URLs (/services/closet-design, not /page.php?id=7).
  • Custom 404 page that returns a real 404 status, with links back to main pages.
  • Mobile-friendly: viewport tag, readable text, tap targets not crowded.
  • Fast: images in WebP under ~200 KB, lazy-loading below the fold, gzip and caching on. Aim for green Core Web Vitals on mobile in PageSpeed Insights.

Allow: /
Disallow: /admin/

Register with the search engines

  1. Google Search Console — add a Domain property, verify with a DNS TXT record (cPanel → Zone Editor), submit the sitemap, and request indexing for the home page and key service pages. Add the client as an owner.
  2. Bing Webmaster Tools — choose Import from Google Search Console to copy the site and sitemap in one step. Bing also feeds DuckDuckGo, Yahoo and several AI assistants.
  3. IndexNow — generate a key in Bing Webmaster Tools, place the key file at the site root, and ping IndexNow whenever a page is added or changed. Participating engines share the notice. It doesn't affect Google, so keep using Search Console there.

Within about a week, confirm pages show as Indexed in Search Console and fix anything under Not indexed.

2
Before launch

On-page SEO

Each page targets one phrase a real customer would type, like "closet organizers Wichita" or "piano lessons Wichita KS." Ask the client how customers describe what they need, then check Google's autocomplete and "People also ask."

ElementWhat to doExample
Title tag50–60 characters, main phrase first, business name last; unique per pageCustom Closet Design in Wichita, KS | Harmony Home Closets

Internal linksLink services to each other and to Contact with descriptive words"see our pantry shelving options"
Contact infoName, address, phone in the footer as text, same format everywhereBusiness name · street · city · phone

Structured data (schema)

Add a JSON-LD block to the home page so Google reads the business details exactly. Use LocalBusiness or a more specific type (HomeAndConstructionBusiness, MusicSchool, Church). Add FAQPage for FAQs and Event for events. Test with Google's Rich Results Test.

Pages every local business site should have: Home, one page per main service, About (real people and story), Service area, Reviews, FAQ, and Contact with an embedded Google Map. One-page sites can rank for the business name but rarely for services.

Week 1

Google Business Profile & local listings

For local businesses, the Google Business Profile is what appears in the map pack and on "near me" searches, often above the website itself.

Google Business Profile setup

  • The client creates or claims the profile with their own Google account, then adds Selah Create as a Manager.
  • Business name exactly as on signage and paperwork. Adding keywords or cities to the name now risks suspension.
  • Verify before editing anything else. Video verification is now common: one continuous, unedited clip showing signage or street, the workspace or branded vehicle, and proof of management.
  • Home-based or service-area business: verify with the real address, then hide it and list service areas.
  • Fill in everything: most specific primary category, secondary categories, hours, phone, website, services, products, attributes, 750-character description.
  • Upload 10+ real photos (logo, cover, exterior, interior, team, work) and add new ones monthly.
  • Post an update, offer or event at least twice a month.
  • Add 5–10 questions and answers customers actually ask.
Careful with changes. Google can request re-verification at any time, especially after changes to name, address, category or phone. Make those changes rarely and on purpose.

Reviews

Reviews move local rankings more than almost anything else, and a steady flow of recent reviews beats a big old total. Give each client their GBP review link, a short text/email template, and a QR code card. Reply to every review within a few days. Never buy reviews or offer rewards for them.

Weeks 1–2

Social profiles & link previews

Social profiles rank for the business name, build trust, and send visitors to the site. Two or three active profiles beat eight abandoned ones.

Home services & contractorsFacebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, YouTube before/after videos, Pinterest for design work
Music teachers & studiosInstagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok lesson clips
Churches & ministriesFacebook, YouTube sermons and live streams, Instagram

Profile checklist (every platform)

  • Same handle everywhere if possible; check availability before launch.
  • Same logo, name, phone and description as the website and Google profile.
  • Website link in the bio pointing to the client's domain, with UTM tags (e.g. ?utm_source=instagram) to track visits.
  • Business or professional account type so contact buttons and insights are on.
  • The client owns the account; Selah Create is added as admin or partner.
  • Every profile URL added to the site footer and to the schema sameAs list.

Make shared links look great (Open Graph)

Put these in the <head> of every page so links on Facebook, LinkedIn and text messages show a picture and title. Use a 1200 × 630 px image, then test with Facebook's Sharing Debugger and LinkedIn's Post Inspector.

<meta property="og:title" content="Custom Closets in Wichita | Business Name">
<meta property="og:description" content="Free in-home design consult. Built locally.">

<meta property="og:url" content="https://clientdomain.com/">
<meta property="og:type" content="website">
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">
Posting rhythm: 2–3 posts a week, mostly real photos and short videos of the work, people and customers. Link back to a site page once a week and share the same updates as Google Business posts.
5
Ongoing

Content & AI search

Rankings grow from pages that answer the questions customers actually ask, written by someone who clearly does the work.

Showing up in AI answers

Google says there are no special tricks for AI Overviews or AI Mode: a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet, and normal SEO fundamentals apply. In practice:

  • Answer one question per section, with the direct answer in the first sentence.
  • Give plain facts AI can cite: price ranges, service areas, timelines, hours, credentials.
  • Keep Google profile, reviews and listings complete; AI also describes businesses from them.
  • Never block Googlebot or Bingbot, and avoid nosnippet on public pages.
  • Bing powers Copilot and feeds other assistants, so the Phase 1 Bing setup matters here too.

Content that works for local businesses

Real FAQ pageBuilt from the questions people ask on the phone
Service + town pagesUnique content and a local project for each town truly served, never copy-paste pages
Project storiesPhotos, the problem, what was done, the customer's words
Cost guides"How much does a custom closet cost in Wichita?" with honest ranges
Short videosOn YouTube, embedded on the matching page
Seasonal postsTied to what customers do that time of year
Earn local links: chamber membership, sponsoring a school or church event, partner businesses linking to each other, local news or podcast features, supplier "find a dealer" pages. One real local link beats dozens of junk directories.
Avoid: bought links, fake reviews, keyword-stuffed business names, doorway pages, and AI filler published without the client's real details. Each can get a site or profile suppressed.

Monthly

Tracking & maintenance

What gets measured gets kept up, and a short monthly report shows the client what their investment is doing.

Google Analytics 4Phone clicks, email clicks and form submits marked as key events
Google Search ConsoleClicks, impressions, top searches, indexing problems
Google Business PerformanceCalls, direction requests, website clicks
Bing Webmaster ToolsThe same view for Bing and Copilot

Monthly checklist

  • Search Console: fix new indexing or mobile errors; note top 10 searches and average position.
  • Google profile: 2+ posts, new photos, reply to every review, confirm hours and holiday hours.
  • Check that no one (including Google's "suggested edits") changed the listing details.
  • Publish or update at least one page or post; ping IndexNow and request indexing.
  • Test the contact form, phone links and page speed.
  • Send the client a one-page report: calls, leads, profile actions, search clicks, reviews, work done, what's next.

Client intake: gather before starting

  • Exact business name, address, phone, email, hours
  • Service list with 2–3 sentences each, price ranges, service-area towns
  • Logo files, 15+ real photos, any videos
  • Access or manager invites: domain registrar, Google account, Facebook, Instagram, Yelp, Apple Business Connect
  • Old listings, websites, phone numbers or addresses to clean up
  • Top 3 competitors and the 5 phrases they want to be found for
  • Who on their team will collect reviews and post updates
